The police received the only report that Alija Balijagić was in the village of Sokolac and that he owned a rifle on October 25, the day of the murder of Milenko and Jovan Madžgalje.

"The allegations that this person was reported to the Police Directorate several times are not true, the only report from the Tomaševo MH, in relation to AB, was received on October 25, more precisely on the day when the criminal offense was committed. The said report referred to the circumstance that the person AB is found in the hamlet of Sokolac and that he owns a rifle. Then the police officers immediately acted on the report and went to the scene where the reported person was not found, but he had moved away in the meantime," the police announced.
They add that during the whole day of October 25, until the early hours of the evening, their officers in Bijelo Polje toured the grounds, as well as the residence of the victims Milenko and Jovan Madžgalje, as well as other localities where locals stay in order to gather more information.
"On that occasion, AB was not found. For the sake of objectively informing the public, we point out that this was a terrain with such a configuration where the person could have been hidden in the relative vicinity, without being in the perimeter and in the line of sight of the police officers. As the public already knows, a double murder was reported to the police on October 25 at 21.10:XNUMX p.m., the same day when this person was first reported to the police, and immediately after learning about the event, the entire Bijelo Polje Security Department was engaged, police officers went to the field and took measures and actions from their jurisdiction with the aim of elucidating this criminal act, identifying the perpetrator, locating him and depriving him of his liberty," the announcement states.

It is added that in addition to the operational staff of the Regional Security Center "North", which includes nine departments and police stations in the north of Montenegro, the complete operational staff of other organizational units of the Police Administration and the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been made available, so that Balijagić was located and arrested.
It is also stated that the most sophisticated technique available to the Police Department is being used in the search for the suspect.
"The activities continued both yesterday and today from the early hours of the morning with the engagement of the aforementioned units, and at the request of the Minister of the Interior, the special units of the Army of Montenegro joined the search, which together with the officers of the Police Administration - Ministry of the Interior, are taking measures and actions to locate AB and to deprive him of his freedom. to share all the knowledge they have in relation to this person with the police immediately and without delay by calling the Bijelo Polje Security Department on-call number 067/184-844 or the toll-free number 122, the nearest police station or in another way".
They point out that the help of the local population to the Police Department is extremely important, since it is a large scattered area, which is largely inaccessible, and any information is welcome at this moment.
"The police in cooperation with the Army of Montenegro are carrying out intensive activities, a targeted search of the terrain and tours of all positions that can be assumed to be used for the residence and hiding of this person are carried out. We also appeal to the residents of Bijelo Polje, especially the residents of the mentioned village, to be be careful, stay in their housing facilities and do not allow unknown persons to enter them, while the police undertakes all activities within their jurisdiction with the aim of bringing the security situation under control and depriving the perpetrator of his freedom," the police statement said.
