They failed, this should not have happened. The fact that a hardened criminal, who has been in prison for more than 30 years, stole the rifles should not have been kept quiet, because some child did not steal them. If the authorities had reacted as they should, published his photo publicly, let search dogs find him, instead of letting him walk around armed for 15 days, my uncle and aunt would be alive.
This is what he told "Vijesta" yesterday Janko Danilović, cousin of the murdered Mistress (69) and Jovan Madžgalj (60), after family and friends returned from the cemetery where the innocent victims of the escaped killer were buried the day before Alija Balijagić (65)
"Vijesti" reporters visited the Vraneška valley and the hamlet of Sokolac, where the lives of Milenko and Jovan Madžgalje were extinguished in their home on October 25, around 21.10:XNUMX p.m.
Dozens of policemen and soldiers patrolled Tomaševo yesterday, checkpoints were set up, but from the turn towards the villages of Barice, Sokolac and Pisana Jela to the house of Madžgalja, with the exception of the three pilots of the helicopter unit, there was no sign of the presence of law enforcement officers, although the authorities claim that they provide protection to the locals. For the fourth day now, the fear of an escaped murderer, rapist, bandit and thug, who eludes the police, is spreading among the villagers in the Vraneška Valley.
"There is fear, danger. Disaster one. I have three children at home, I have no gun, no rifle, no protection, no army. Just lies," said a local woman yesterday Shares Sinđić.
Temporal Velimirka Nenezić she said that they are afraid that the killer will not return to the village, because she does not know where everything can appear. She also added that before the murder, he stopped by some neighbors, drank coffee and brandy, but that after that, the now deceased Milenka Madžgalj, warned them that an armed man was going through the village, telling them to lock themselves up.
"She called us and told all the neighbors to be careful and lock up... I'm not afraid to sleep, we've made a living, but there are horrors, but we can't run away from this, it could be behind that spruce now," she said. she.
While the journalists were giving their statement, neither the police nor the army were in sight.
Even at the forks of the macadam road that leads to the last house in Sokolac, the one where the Madžgals lived, there was no one - only two policemen with rifles in front of the house.
There is silence in the house, and the family is looking for answers to many questions, including why the police did not announce that Balijagić was walking around armed with stolen rifles, how come members of that service did not stay in the village on October 25 to protect the villagers, which is why the prosecutor did not immediately after the crime she came to the scene, she did it only the morning after and most importantly - where is the killer.
The killer also stopped by the school
Alija Balijagić from Bjelopol, a repeatedly convicted robber, was released from prison in August, where he had been in prison since 2016 for raping an old woman and stealing. At the end of September, as is suspected, he broke into a house in the Bjelopolje village of Lješnica VB and stole two rifles and ammunition. For the last 15 days, he was on the run from the police, visiting mostly elderly households in remote villages above Bijelo Polje and Mojkovac.
On Friday, October 25, he came to Sokolac, to the house of Madžgalja, and before that, he stopped by the village elementary school, where the porter gave him a glass of water.
This is what one of the brothers of the murdered Madžgalja told "Vijesti", Velibor Madžgalj, who was in Podgorica that day for a medical examination.
"He used to come up to school. There they have three students, a teacher. When he came, my uncle's brother was there. The latter asked him for a glass of water, and gave it to him. He told us the man was carrying a rifle, a rifle around his belt, I don't know who he is, Drašković introduced himself. Alija did not introduce himself. So he hid his name and was preparing all this," said Madžgalj.
He recalls that he spoke to his brother and sister by phone before they were killed, because they expected him to arrive in Sokolac that night, but that he postponed his return until later in the morning.
"It would have been better if I had come, if only I would be lying in that grave with them now," he said.
The story also says that on that day Milenka and Jovan hosted a stranger who introduced himself to them as the hunter Drašković, and gave him food and drink.
A little later, he said, the police came, showed them Balijagić's photo and asked if they had been looking at him.
"During the day, it was reported to them that he was walking around the villages, carrying a rifle and a rifle. They came to my brother and sister, showed them the photographer Alija Balijagić and asked if it was him, they stayed at our house for ten minutes and left. If they had stayed in the village, this would not have happened. They had to stay that night to keep everyone on duty here, because they exactly let him kill them. He was released to kill them... He returned ten minutes after the police left. How could he know where to shoot, how could he know that the blocks were next to the house and make a step out of them to get up to the window? The first time he came, when they gave him food and drink, he might have walked here, seen those blocks, photographed the terrain and what he could do, and came back to kill them," he said.
He explains that his brother, before Balijagić shot him in the back, was lying on a part of the corner and that he jumped when the glass on the window was broken.
"When he hit the window, probably with the butt, my brother jumped to see what happened, and he killed him there. The sister managed to call the police and report that our brother had been killed, but then the connection was lost. He also killed her," said Velibor Madžgalj.
Family outraged
In the conversation, he does not hide his indignation at the failure of the policemen who, as he claims, had to stay in the village after they confirmed the information that Balijagić was walking around armed with katuns. He is no less angry with the prosecutor, who, according to his claims, only came to the scene the next day.
"The prosecutor was not authorized to come in the evening, but came the next day, only at 10 or 11 o'clock... The police came and stayed only after the murder, but I strongly doubt that they know where the killer is. Kudos to the army, it provides us, it sits here with us, but we can't even sleep tonight if they don't come," he said.
Their eldest brother, Budimir Madžgalj, told "Vijesti" that Jovan and Milenka, responding to the police officers who visited them before the murder, said that Balijagić was at their place, drinking coffee and brandy and that they gave him something to eat.
"When the police left, my brother returned to settle the cows, and then entered the house and that's what happened to them, he killed them," he said.
"However, when the police came, and they were around 17:XNUMX p.m., a little before dark, when they knew who they were looking for, they knew he was a criminal and a criminal, someone should have stayed, and not walked a little and left... They didn't were here all day, maybe they were in the villages, but they were here for ten minutes. They came and returned, instead of staying. I doubt they are covering it up. Letting a criminal go and not following him, I can't understand how that can happen anywhere. The police completely failed," he said.
He added that he knew one local resident who reported that someone armed with a rifle was walking through the villages, but also that another told him that he reported him.
"Yesterday, the police were guarding the funeral, and today when we went to the cemetery, nobody was there. He could have killed us all. I demand that the police secure our family and house until they catch the killer. And that they take a little more care of the people, this people must not fall asleep here, they must run away", said Budimir Madžgalj.
Why were they silent about the armed criminal?
Janko Danilović, the sister of the murdered Madžgalje, told "Vijesta" that after the crime they found out that the police were looking for Balijagić for stealing rifles and ammunition from a village in Bijelo Polje, and he questioned why the public was not informed about the fact that a very dangerous bandit and criminal was walking around the villages armed. .
"We know that the police went to the field, that they immediately went to the killer's house, searched it and found neither a rifle nor ammunition, and he pretended that he had not done anything, that he had not broken into the house and stolen weapons. After the police received operational information and found evidence that it was him after all, and when they started to deprive him of his freedom, he noticed them and ran away. While running away, he lost his backpack, which contained socks and some clothes. When those clothes were brought here, in front of my uncle's house, the sniffer dogs sniffed them and continued to search for his trail. "If they had organized a search on the day he escaped from them, if it had been done by the chief of the Bjelo Polje police, this would not have happened at all," Danilović said.
He asked why on the same day, when Balijagić, as he claims, ran away from the police, they did not hire search dogs.
"They had evidence, they had socks that the sniffer dog could still search for that day," he said.
The sister of the murdered also questioned why the police, who knew who they were dealing with, did not warn the public immediately after Balijagić escaped that they were in danger from him.
"They didn't inform anyone that a serious criminal, who has a serious police record, escaped from the law enforcement agencies, and they should have given his picture to all the media so that someone could see him, to report the man, so that the people of the village would know who he was. People in the villages do not know who was coming in front of their house, introducing himself as Drašković, Bulatović, carrying a rifle, saying that he was a hunter, that he had lost his kere... But in fact, while they were hosting him, they gave him a glass of water, brandy, or to eat, went around the field and saw who would be the easiest to kill. And that's where they failed. That shouldn't have happened, because some child didn't steal a rifle to keep quiet about it," he said.
The day before the murder, he was walking in Katun
The day before he took the lives of his brother and sister Madžgalj, Balijagić stopped by Velimir Zejak's katun, to whom he also introduced himself as a hunter looking for a lost dog.
"He was there for about an hour, he said that he was a hunter and that he was looking for a lost deer that he bought in Serbia. Last Sunday, many hunters passed this way, and they pass by there all the time, so I didn't even suspect his story until after he left, my neighbor Nenezić told me that he was an outlaw who was seen around Pisana jela and other villages. He told me that he lives in Lješnica and in just a few minutes he drank seven or eight brandies. He asked who lives in the houses, and he asked me to lend him 20 euros, to which I said that I don't even have it for myself," Zejak told "Vijesta".
