Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic said that Alija Balijagić, who is wanted for the double murder in Bijelo Polje, has not yet been found, but that a detailed search of the area is underway.
"Yesterday, there was certain information from the field throughout the day. It is about Prijepolje and the border zone towards Montenegro. A person suspected of being Balijagić was spotted in two places. We have been communicating with the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro for two days, mutually cooperating, bearing in mind the possibility that he could easily be transferred from one side of the border to the other, because he knows the terrain, that's why we raised the level of preparedness," Dacic said in the RTS morning daily.
"The first information was from the hunters, that they met a man who was carrying a rifle, and he said that he had lost his hunting dog. They think he looks like the man from the picture. Second, in the village of Ivezići near Prijepolje, that is a village near the border, he stopped by a local woman's house, drank two glasses of brandy and left. She couldn't even guess who it was, but he called the police. So those are two clues that indicate that he is most likely located in those fields near Prijepolje. Then we raised not only the local police, but also the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit and the Gendarmerie.
He said that the presence of police officers in all lines of work has been increased and that "all possible techniques" and equipment of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia are being used - drones, thermal imaging, tracking dogs...
He also indicated that the terrain is quite inaccessible and hilly and that there are a lot of abandoned buildings and katuns, but that a detailed search is being carried out.
Dacic also said that he spoke with his Montenegrin colleague Danilo Šaranović.
Dacic: Three injured in Novi Sad are still in serious condition, 26 people have been questioned, five more will be questioned today
Speaking about the accident in which 14 people died when a canopy collapsed on them at the Novi Sad Railway Station, Dačić said that the condition of the three seriously injured people who are being treated at the Clinical Center of Vojvodina is still serious, and that they will be heard today five more people.
This morning, in a guest appearance on RTS, Dacic said that the consequences of the accident were such because the concrete canopy was extremely heavy.
As he said, yesterday in the premises of the Novi Sad Police Department, they questioned 26 people, including those from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, led by the minister, the state secretary, the head of the department for inspection supervision, the head of the department for construction inspection and building inspector.
As he said, the director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Novi Sad, seven people led by the general director of Serbian Railways, Goran Adzić, and seven people from the company Infrastructure of Serbia, led by the general director Jelena Tanasković, were heard. People who are directly responsible for tasks related to reconstruction were also heard - directors, contractors, project designers...
He also said that it will be continued today, as well as waiting for the findings of the expert, and that all further actions will be taken based on those statements and the opinion of the expert, Beta Agency reports.
Commenting on the allegations from the Institute for the Protection of Monuments in Novi Sad that it is not true that they did not give consent for the reconstruction of the canopy, he said that the person who carries out the work addresses certain institutions, including that institute, from which, according to Dacic, they stated that he should only two things are done.
"So they (the Institute) did not say that reconstruction should not be carried out, but they did not even recommend it, the planners only did what they wrote," said Dacic.
He also said that the evidence was put away in a safe location so that no one could use it. He stated that the prosecutors are taking the evidence to a safe place, which is guarded by the police.
