By adopting the Strategy for Combating Transnational Crime, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) shows its commitment to meeting European obligations and security standards, creating the foundations for a safer Montenegro, said the state secretary of that department, Dragana Kažanegra Stanišić.
She said that this strategy, which was adopted by the Government at its session on October 31, represents a response to contemporary security challenges – from drug, human and arms trafficking to cybercrime.
"Montenegro is resolutely working to protect its security and the security of all citizens," said Kažanegra Stanišić.
According to her, the goal of the strategy is to create a unified approach in the fight against organized criminal groups, which will be based on the principle of zero tolerance towards all forms of crime and money laundering.
"Through the planned measures, the MUP will strengthen its capacities for more efficient investigations, improve the legal framework, strengthen international cooperation and digitize law enforcement systems," says the announcement of Kažanegra Stanišić.
It is stated that this means faster, more precise and safer operation of all institutions.
"Our determination in the fight against crime is our strength, and the safety of our country and our citizens is our priority," said Kažanegra Stanišić.
As she said, one of the key segments of the strategy is confiscation of property acquired through criminal activity, which includes strengthening the legal framework and implementing procedures for identification, confiscation and management of this property, in order to prevent its integration into legal economic flows.
"Every euro earned through crime will be removed from our economy - this is our guarantee for the safe progress of Montenegro," Kažanegra Stanišić said.
She stated that transnational organized crime does not recognize borders and that it includes networks that operate in multiple countries using violence and corruption to achieve their goals.
"Our goal is to deal systematically with these groups and their influence in Montenegro in order to ensure the maximum security of Montenegro as an investment destination. Our economy will grow in a safe environment, and Montenegro will be a country where law and order always wins," Kažanegra Stanišić added.
As she stated, the comprehensive strategy was created with the help of domestic and international experts.
Kažanegra Stanišić thanked the international partners from ICITAP, the Norwegian Center for Integrity in the Security Sector and the OSCE for their support during the development of the strategy.
She said that, when it comes to the safety of citizens, Montenegro acts together with international partners, decisively and unwaveringly.
"By adopting the Strategy just one day after receiving a positive report from the European Commission, the Ministry of Interior shows its daily commitment to fulfilling European obligations and security standards, creating the foundations for an even stronger and safer Montenegro," stated Kažanegra Stanišić.
