The officials of the Security Department of Berana filed a criminal complaint against the former managers of the Management of Forests and Hunting Areas - Regional Unit of Berana, Živko Tomović (53) and Živko Vukanić (61), on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of abuse of official position.
"It is suspected that Z.T. and Ž.V. committed the criminal offense charged against them in such a way that by taking advantage of their official position and exceeding the limits of their official authority, Ž.T. as a former manager, and Ž.V. as the then head of forest protection in the Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds - Berane Regional Units, in the period from November 2022 to July 2023, enabled unknown persons to carry out illegal felling of the forest in Kucina gora in Berane, with a gross mass of 2.391 m3 of conifers and 148 m3 of hardwoods, which caused material damage to the Directorate for Forest and Hunting Management in the amount of 187.000 euros," the announcement states.
As it is written, the checks carried out revealed that in the mentioned region, after the sick leave of a forester who worked on that land, in the first six months of 2023, as many as 16 forest guards were deployed by the suspects, some of whom were deployed several times, and during the handover of the terrain, no minutes were drawn up about the handover of the Lugar regions with the state of the terrain:
"And what they were obliged to do in accordance with the Rulebook of the Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds of Pljevlja, and because of this organization of forest protection, the effective implementation of logging services in that region was made impossible, which is why a large amount of illegal logging occurred in a relatively short period of time, and all to the detriment of the Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds," added the police text.
