The attack on "Pobjeda" journalist Ana Raičković is a deeply worrying act of violence against the freedom of the media and the right to information, said Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović.
"This brutal incident, in which Raičković was subjected to physical violence and insults, represents a direct attack on the journalistic profession and the basic democratic rights that it symbolizes. Attacks on them are attacks on the entire public, on the right of citizens to be informed and on democratic principles on which every free society rests," she said.
Vujović says that he is encouraged by the prompt and effective reaction of the competent authorities, and that the state must show that such actions are unacceptable.
"The old practices in which journalists were attacked for their work by those who felt privileged in this society are behind us. This attack must be a turning point that will remind us all that we will not go back in relation to journalists and the media. Only through decisive condemnation and adequate sanctions, we can ensure the safety of journalists and the preservation of their role in society. I offer my full support to Ana Raičković and wish her a speedy recovery," the statement reads.
