Attacks on journalists must be efficiently and indiscriminately processed at every step, because only in this way as a society can we fight the bad climate of intolerance and misunderstanding of the mission of journalism in society, announced the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms.
"The disturbing news about the physical and verbal attack on the editor of Pobjeda, Ana Raičković, a woman who was reportedly attacked in the presence of family members, brings the concern for media freedom back into focus. And this time, strongly condemning the act of violence and the infliction of injuries, we remind that reporting must not be the reason for attacks on media workers, and we call for the use of available mechanisms of self-regulation or other possibilities provided for by law," the statement reads.
The right to freedom of expression and media freedom form the basis and necessary precondition for the realization of all other rights and freedoms, and at the same time represent a measure of democracy and development of every society, which is why the authorities must continuously improve the conditions for dignified and free work of journalists, they said.
