Arrested Mladen Mijatović, who verbally and physically attacked Pobjeda journalist Ana Raičković with businessman Zoran Ćoć Bećirović last night, is an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP).
In the official response of the Ministry of Interior to "Vijesti", it is stated that Mijatović was assigned to the position of independent officer-rescuer in the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, within the Directorate for the Air-Helicopter Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
When asked by "Vijesti" whether the MUP knows that Mijatović has been engaged for years as Bećirović's private security, the Ministry confirmed that "the Ministry did not have information that he was engaged in any additional work".
"Nor did he receive approval from the competent manager for engagement outside of his regular duties," the MUP's response reads.
Officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UP for additional engagement, outside of duty, must have a special approval from the superior.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that after receiving and evaluating all relevant files, it will act in accordance with the legal provisions and initiate appropriate disciplinary proceedings against Mladen Mijatović.
Businessman Zoran Ćoć Bećirović and his bodyguard Mladen Mijatović were detained tonight for up to 72 hours on suspicion of having committed a criminal offense - violent behavior to the detriment of Pobjeda journalist Ana Raičković.
"There is a reasonable suspicion that the detained persons, together with LB whose hearing is ongoing, verbally and physically attacked the journalist and two other persons and on that occasion inflicted physical injuries on the injured party," reads the announcement of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica.
A few years ago, disciplinary proceedings were also conducted against Mijatović in the MUP, after he attacked the then-journalist "Dana" Vladimir Otašević in the Delta shopping center at the end of 2019 in order to prevent him from photographing Bećirović, who was in the company of the prosecutor. Miloš Šoškić.
Mijatović then denied that he was working as a private security guard for Zoran Bećirović, but also that he had attacked the journalist at all.
At that time, the Prosecutor's Office dismissed the criminal complaint against Mijatović because, as they stated at the time, they did not find the essential elements of the existence of that criminal offense, as well as any other criminal offense for which he was prosecuted ex officio.
