Minister of the Interior Danilo Šaranović announced that he will initiate disciplinary proceedings against Mladen Mijatović, an employee of the Avio helicopter unit of the Ministry of the Interior (MUP).
Mijatović is one of the suspects in the attack on Ana Raičković, a journalist from the daily "Pobjeda".
"I strongly condemn the attack on the editor of the black chronicle of the Pobjeda daily, Ana Raičković, and her family members, and I consider it a serious threat not only to personal safety, but also to the integrity of the journalistic profession. Any form of violence against public speakers is completely unacceptable, and I believe that, after the police acted efficiently and deprived the suspect of his liberty in the shortest possible time, the competent authorities should thoroughly and thoroughly investigate this case and adequately punish the perpetrators. Bearing in mind that one of the suspects in this case officer of the Aviation helicopter unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, I will initiate disciplinary proceedings as soon as possible as the head of the authority, because such cases deserve the most severe criminal-legal sanction and dismissal," Saranović said in a statement.
He added that civil servants have an obligation and additional responsibility to protect the reputation of the authority in which they are employed in all situations by their behavior, so insisting on efficient undertaking of activities is considered a professional and moral obligation.
"This case shows that, despite the efforts made by the competent authorities, we must work additionally both on prevention and on tightening the criminal policy, in order to ensure that such cases do not go unpunished and to send a message that the state will provide protection to journalists," he concluded. Šaranović.
Zoran Bećirović, his son Luka and the bodyguard of a businessman from Kolašin, Mladen Mijatović, were arrested shortly after they attacked a journalist from "Pobjeda" and her son on Sunday evening, around 22 p.m.
After the hearing at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, they were detained for up to 72 hours.
Zoran Bećirović's bodyguard Ljubo Dukić was arrested today in the investigation regarding the attack on Raičković.
