The decision of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) to file indictments against the former director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) Jelena Perović and her assistant Nina Paović shows the determination of those institutions to stand in the way of abuses of official positions and protect the interests of citizens and the state, said Democrat MP Momčilo Lekovic.

"The indictments for serious crimes, including abuse of official position and falsification of official documents, reveal the systematic and continuous abuse of an institution that was supposed to be the bulwark of the fight against corruption. Instead, we see that the ASK under the leadership of Jelena Perović has become an instrument for realizing the interests of individuals and We expect that a new wave of attacks on SDT will follow today, as was the case with the extension of the detention of Zoran Lazović and Milivoj Katnić. by those political structures that appointed Jelena Perović to the position of director, not of course because of her expert and professional qualities, but because of loyalty to their interests," said Leković.

"Now it is completely clear that she is expected to collapse the Agency and use her position to protect privileged individuals and groups, in the same way as Zoran Lazović, Veljović, Katnić, Milović and the other accused, for years collapsed the security sector and served crime and criminal groups, not the state. This is a really important step towards restoring trust in institutions and establishing a system of accountability, and that's why I call on all competent authorities to continue the decisive fight against corruption and abuse, thereby creating a system that will be resistant to all influences and pressures," the announcement reads.
