Prime Minister Milojko Spajić scheduled an extraordinary session of the National Security Council for Friday, January 3, on the occasion of yesterday's tragic event in Cetinje.
According to "Vijesti" information, Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović will also attend the session by invitation.
"During the session, the Council will focus on key challenges in the detection and seizure of illegal weapons, and propose a series of measures aimed at fighting crime and protecting citizens. The agenda will also include an initiative to implement emergency actions in all cities of Montenegro for the purpose of detection and seizure of illegal weapons, as well as the announcement of a public competition for the recruitment of new police officers with the aim of strengthening the capacity of security institutions", announced the Government.
They said that the current level of implementation of legal provisions will also be reviewed, with a special emphasis on the necessity of adopting a new Law on Weapons. With that regulation, they clarified, more rigorous controls and stricter conditions for issuing permits for keeping and carrying short firearms are planned.
"The National Security Council reminds that the protection of life and property is the basic obligation of all competent authorities and expects the full cooperation of citizens and institutions," the announcement reads.
The beginning of tomorrow's session is at 14 pm, after which "conclusions and further steps in the direction of protecting the safety of citizens will be announced".
Twelve people were killed in Cetinje yesterday, and the suspect Aco Martinović committed suicide. Four people were injured and hospitalized in the Clinical Center.
