The Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Saranović, issued decisions on the suspension of four more police officers today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced.
The MUP stated that complete decriminalization of the police apparatus and achieving full integrity of the body as a whole, with a clear separation of honorable and professional police officers from those who are not, is one of the key priorities of that government department.
"Establishing effective control mechanisms is a response to the difficult legacy and damaged reputation of the police, bearing in mind the number of former top police officials who have been prosecuted, some of whom have admitted to having participated in cigarette smuggling. That is why there is a clear separation of those who are the majority, and these are honorable and courageous professionals in uniform, from those who tarnished the reputation of the police, a necessity on the road to full police revitalization managers, with the opinion of the Director of the Police Department, Lazar Šćepanović, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Saranović, issued a decision on the suspension of 4 more police officers. From that government department, they added that they once again remind that security obstacles for further work in the sense of Article 162 of the law exist if a police officer is registered as a user of narcotic drugs or maintains connections with persons who collect secrets and other information without authorization, terrorists, saboteurs, members of organized criminal groups or persons who are reasonably suspected of belonging to such groups.
"The Minister of the Interior will continue to demand extensive checks for those police officers for whom there is reasonable suspicion that they are not performing their police duties protecting citizens, but rather those whom the police treat, especially in light of the leaking of classified documents from the Police Directorate," he states. in the statement of the MUP.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced yesterday that 44 officers have been found to have security obstacles to work in the police, and that 38 of them are still being checked.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated yesterday that Šaranović suspended 19 officers on the grounds of security concerns, and that other disciplinary proceedings will be initiated soon.
