Police Directorate: Citizens returned 53 firearms, 558 bullets, three hand grenades, explosives...

As part of the campaign "Respect life, return weapons", 53 firearms, 558 pieces of ammunition, three hand grenades, explosives and firearm parts were voluntarily returned in several cities across Montenegro yesterday, the Police Directorate announced today.

"Yesterday, in the territory under the jurisdiction of the Regional Security Center 'Centar', in Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje, citizens voluntarily handed over 28 weapons to the police, of which 22 pistols and six rifles, 265 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers, one bomb, and an optical sight for a rifle. 15 pieces of firearms and 167 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers were voluntarily returned to the officers of the Regional Security Center 'Jug' in Bar, Ulcinj, Herceg Novi, Kotor and Budva," the statement said.

The Police Directorate added that in the northern region of the country, in the territory under the jurisdiction of the Regional Security Center "North", in Bijelo Polje, Berane and Plav, seven firearms were voluntarily surrendered, of which three pistols and four rifles, 126 pieces of ammunition, two hand grenades, one gun frame and one bayonet.

"Three weapons, two pistols and one rifle, and three sticks of explosives were voluntarily surrendered to police officers of the Regional Security Center 'West' in Nikšić and Šavnik," the Police Directorate said.

The institution said that since the beginning of January, 1.315 firearms, 40.803 pieces of ammunition, 139 hand grenades, as well as several parts of weapons and explosive devices have been voluntarily handed over to them.

"We would like to remind you that keeping weapons owned by family members or relatives, regardless of whether or not a probate proceeding has been conducted before the competent court, in accordance with the Weapons Act, constitutes an illegal weapon, until one of the legal heirs obtains a permit to keep that weapon from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We would like to remind you once again that citizens can call the police at 122 and inform police officers that they want to return the weapon, without any legal, criminal or misdemeanor liability and regardless of whether they own the weapon illegally or legally," the Police Directorate said.
