The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Security and Defense, Miodrag Laković, will request information from the security services regarding the actions taken in the case of the tragedy that occurred in Cetinje on January 1, in which 13 people were killed.
Laković announced this at the session of the Security and Defense Committee, which adopted the report on the work of that parliamentary body for the past year.
Today's session was not attended by members of the opposition.
Democratic Party MP Boris Bogdanović assessed that information should also be requested about the 2022 Medovina case.
Laković said that he would seek information on that case as well and assessed that the topic had also not been sufficiently clarified and had not been adequately treated by the Committee.
"I agree that we should request that information, I will definitely request it," said Laković.
He stated that, within the topic of the overall security situation, he plans to request information about security obstacles to further work in the service, which is applied as a disciplinary measure within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP).
"It is important that as a Committee we have insight into the way it works, for the sake of legality, transparency, and objectivity. As a member of the Committee, I would also request an explanation of these procedures and answers to these questions," Laković added.
He said that he would also request information about the employment procedure at the Ministry of Interior.
"We know that the procedure has begun by public invitation. I believe that the public is quite interested and that we as the Committee have the right and duty to monitor this process, seek information and discuss it at the Committee," said Laković.
As he assessed, this is necessary to eliminate all doubts and objections that it may have some political overtones and a dimension that is incompatible with a professional attitude towards the service.
Laković explained that he would request information regarding these topics and, when they come, that the members of the Committee be informed of them and that they be considered at a thematic session.
Speaking about the fact that opposition MPs did not attend today's session, he assessed that it was quite irresponsible that they, in addition to blocking the work of the plenum, did not participate in the work of the Committee.
Laković recalled that opposition MPs had numerous initiatives last year when it came to control hearings and other Committee activities.
"Now we see that when it comes to these topics, they are not participating, I think that is a big mistake and that the public will appreciate that," Laković added.
Speaking about the report on the work of the Committee, he said that 20 sessions of that parliamentary body were held last year, at which nine reports were adopted.
"Those sessions lasted 46 hours, some sessions were quite exhausting. We adopted nine reports on the work of institutions in the field of security and defense," said Laković.
As he said, last year the Committee considered and adopted all draft laws for which this parliamentary body is the parent committee.
Laković stated that last year the Committee held three control hearings.
"We had a parliamentary visit, where MPs were able to see for themselves on-site and in direct contact with officials of the National Security Agency (ANB) about the way they work when it comes to secret surveillance measures," said Laković.
He pointed out that this activity was also foreseen in the Committee's plan for this year.
"We have fulfilled everything we planned in the Committee's work plan for last year," Laković pointed out.
