The Berane police filed criminal charges against N.Dž. (33) and Nj.K. (28) with the prosecutor's office in that city, on suspicion of committing forest theft in the town of Rudeš, on a piece of state-owned land.
Nj.K. was arrested and ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours, while N.Dž. has been in prison for some time.
The Police Directorate announced that Nj.K. is listed as a person of operational interest in their records. N.Dž. is serving a nine-month prison sentence for the crimes of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives and forest theft.
They were processed in cooperation with the Berane police and the Crime Prevention Sector, in an operation codenamed "Cekic", and as part of "increased activities to suppress criminal offenses against the environment and spatial planning, as well as the fight against environmental crime".
As stated, the report was filed after an expert examination "and other measures and actions" within the jurisdiction of the police.
"The Police Directorate continues its intensive activities in the fight against environmental crime as one of the national priorities, as well as in preventing illegal logging, finding and prosecuting perpetrators of criminal acts, with the aim of preserving the natural resources of Montenegro," the statement reads.
