Montenegrin citizens voluntarily handed over 51 weapons, 1236 pieces of ammunition, eight hand grenades, and weapon parts to the police yesterday, the Police Directorate (PD) announced.
As announced by the police, this was done as part of the "Respect Life, Return the Weapons" campaign.
The Police Department said that citizens in Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje voluntarily handed over 20 weapons to the police, including 10 pistols and 10 rifles, 643 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers, and two bombs.
In Bar, Ulcinj, Kotor and Herceg Novi, seven weapons, 183 pieces of ammunition and five hand grenades were returned to the police.
In the northern region of the country, in Bijelo Polje, Berane, Kolašin, Rožaje and Plav, a total of 12 weapons were voluntarily surrendered, of which six rifles and six pistols, 367 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers, one hand grenade and weapon parts.
In Nikšić, Plužine and Pljevlja, 12 weapons were voluntarily surrendered, nine of which were rifles and three pistols, and 43 pieces of ammunition.
"We remind you that keeping weapons owned by family members or relatives, regardless of whether or not a probate proceeding has been conducted before a competent court, in accordance with the Weapons Act, constitutes an illegal weapon, until one of the legal heirs obtains a permit to keep that weapon from the Ministry of Internal Affairs," the statement reads.
Since the beginning of January, 2068 weapons, 68.446 pieces of ammunition, 217 hand grenades, as well as several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered to the Police Directorate.
