Yesterday, as part of the Police Directorate's "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, citizens voluntarily surrendered 22 firearms, 548 pieces of ammunition, and seven hand grenades.
Since the beginning of the year, 2.216 weapons, 72.999 pieces of ammunition, 241 hand grenades, as well as several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered.
Yesterday, citizens in Podgorica voluntarily surrendered five weapons, including one pistol, four rifles, and seven pieces of ammunition.
Nine firearms were returned in Bar, Ulcinj and Herceg Novi, of which seven were pistols, two were rifles and three were hand grenades.
In Bijelo Polje, Berane and Rožaje, three rifles, 42 pieces of ammunition of various calibers and three hand grenades were voluntarily surrendered.
Citizens in Pljevlja, Plužine and Šavnik returned five firearms, including four rifles and a pistol, 499 pieces of ammunition and a hand grenade.
"We remind you that keeping weapons owned by family members or relatives, regardless of whether or not a probate proceeding has been conducted before a competent court, in accordance with the Weapons Act, constitutes an illegal weapon, until one of the legal heirs obtains a permit to keep that weapon from the Ministry of Internal Affairs," the police said.
I would like to point out once again that citizens can call the police at 122 and inform police officers that they want to return their weapons, without any legal, criminal or misdemeanor liability and regardless of whether they possess the weapon illegally or legally.
