Officers from the Regional Police Center Center in a relatively short time solved the infanticide committed yesterday in Podgorica and suspected I.Š. (28), the mother of the baby who was found dead in a trash can yesterday in the Blok 9 neighborhood, of this crime, Vijesti learned.

An investigation was opened after a "Čistoća" worker found a dead baby yesterday morning.

The Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica announced this morning that they, in cooperation with the Police Directorate, have taken a series of measures and actions in order to determine all the circumstances of the event.

"The prosecutorial and police activities carried out resulted in the identification of the mother of the newborn, so the proceedings in the aforementioned case were transferred to the jurisdiction of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, given the fact that there is a basis for suspicion that a criminal offense within the jurisdiction of that prosecutor's office was committed," the VDP said.

The Police Directorate announced that the newborn's mother, I.Š. from Plužine, residing in Podgorica, was arrested.

They say they identified the perpetrator "by extracting clues and conducting extensive criminal processing."

"During the investigation phase, a large number of video surveillance cameras were reviewed and seized, information was collected from a large number of citizens, numerous interrogations were conducted, and intelligence and operational information was verified, based on which police activities directed officers to locate the apartment occupied by I.Š. as well as the crime scene, during which a search was conducted and items were found that are directly related to the clues provided," the statement reads.

They say that doctors examined the suspect, which confirmed that she had committed the crime she is charged with.

"In cooperation with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, investigative measures and actions were taken, where in further legal qualification, by order of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, I.Š. was deprived of her liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of murder of a child during childbirth - infanticide," the police announced.
