Citizens voluntarily surrender 24 weapons in one day, 2.240 since the beginning of the year

Yesterday, as part of the Police Directorate's "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, citizens voluntarily surrendered 24 firearms and 754 pieces of ammunition.

A total of 2.240 weapons, 73.753 pieces of ammunition, 241 hand grenades, as well as several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered to the police since the beginning of the year.

The citizens yesterday, in Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje, voluntarily surrendered nine weapons - three pistols, five rifles and a "dobošar" automatic rifle, as well as 751 pieces of ammunition.

Four firearms were voluntarily returned in Bar, Ulcinj, Kotor and Tivat - three rifles and a pistol.

Six rifles were voluntarily surrendered to the police in Bijelo Polje, Berane and Plav.

Five firearms were returned in Nikšić, Pljevlja and Šavnik - two rifles and three pistols, as well as three pieces of ammunition.

"We remind you that keeping weapons owned by family members or relatives, regardless of whether or not a probate proceeding has been conducted before a competent court, in accordance with the Weapons Act, constitutes an illegal weapon, until one of the legal heirs obtains a permit to keep that weapon from the Ministry of Internal Affairs," the police said.

They once again note that citizens can call the police at 122, inform police officers that they want to return the weapon, without any legal, criminal or misdemeanor liability and regardless of whether they possess the weapon illegally or legally.
