The Police Directorate has called on citizens to notify the police by calling the toll-free number 19969, as well as via email: sos@policija.me, if they notice behavior that may indicate a potential danger to the safety of individuals, and especially if they suspect that someone owns or carries a firearm or is behaving in a manner that indicates that they could pose a threat to citizens.
"In order to improve the safety and protection of citizens, intensify cooperation with the community, raise awareness of the dangers arising from deviant behavior and violence, as well as illegal possession of weapons, and in order to create a culture of non-violence, the Police Directorate has established mechanisms for closer cooperation and active participation of the police and citizens in order to create a safer environment," the statement reads.
They say that police officers will act on each report without delay and will verify and analyze all information received, and reports can also be submitted anonymously.
They say that community cooperation is of utmost importance for the timely recognition and resolution of situations that can escalate and threaten the safety of citizens, and that "only together can we build a safer society."
The Police Directorate thanked citizens for "recognizing the importance of making a personal contribution to establishing general prevention," in order to "prevent the consequences and commission of criminal offenses involving the use of weapons, tools or other objects through timely action."
"Police officers are continuously undertaking preventive and repressive measures and actions aimed at the voluntary surrender of weapons through the current campaign 'Respect life, return weapons', as well as activities to find and seize weapons in illegal possession of citizens in order to reduce the risk of committing the most serious crimes committed in this way. One call changes everything," the statement reads.
