After information spread on social media last night that an unknown person was moving through Krtole near Tivat armed with a rifle, the police responded, whose officers found the person today and determined that no firearm was used.
The object suspected of belonging to the person seen in the video, which caused concern among the people of Tivat and caused classes to be canceled this morning at the "Branko Brinić" Elementary School in Radovići, is not a rifle, but a wooden object resembling a bat, police said.
"Police officers of the Tivat Security Department, acting on a citizen's report that an 'armed person' can be seen moving through the streets of Tivat in video footage posted on social media, have taken urgent and comprehensive measures and actions to establish all facts regarding the posted footage," the Police Directorate said in a statement.
The police said that they quickly identified and located the person from the available video, and that it was Serbian citizen AJ (25) who lives near the place where the video was taken.
"In a conversation with the aforementioned person, it was confirmed that he was in the aforementioned video footage, that he did not have a firearm with him, but rather that it was a wooden object that he found in the Radovići settlement near his accommodation and took with him.
"Also, during the inspection of the premises used and where the said person resides, no items were found that would indicate that the said person possesses or has possessed firearms," the police statement states.
The Police Directorate said that after completing the case file, the prosecutor on duty at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor was informed about everything, and he stated that the incident did not contain elements of a criminal offense that is prosecuted ex officio.
"A review of the electronic systems of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Directorate determined that the aforementioned person resides without a residence permit and registered residence on the territory of Montenegro, and AJ, along with the case files regarding these circumstances, was handed over for further jurisdiction to the Inspector for Foreigners, who will take further measures and actions in accordance with the Law on Foreigners regarding the aforementioned person," the statement concludes.
