Šaranović: By accepting 96 trainees from the Police Academy, we are strengthening the police

The Police Directorate will receive 96 interns from the Police Academy, announced Minister of the Interior Danilo Šaranović.

He said that the Government, at today's session, adopted his proposal and gave its consent to the decision to initiate the procedure to fill positions for 96 graduates of the Police Academy, as trainees.

"In this way, the conditions have been met for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) to begin the procedure for accepting trainees from the Police Academy," Šaranović said in a statement.

As he said, 91 interns from the 16th generation, who completed their education at the Police Academy in December last year, and five participants from the 15th generation who had not previously completed an internship, will be accepted.

"This is the first time in the many years of operation of the Police Academy that academics have the opportunity to apply for an internship at the Police Directorate just two months after graduation," said Šaranović.

He said that this is breaking the previous practice where academics waited more than half a year between graduation and internship, as well as between internship and employment.

Šaranović stated that such a practice slowed down the work of the police, depriving young, educated people of the opportunity to perform the jobs for which they were educated and trained, and whose engagement is of invaluable importance for improving security at all levels.

"By enabling graduates to start their internships at the Police Directorate in a short time, we have shown that with a proactive approach and political will, we can make processes more efficient," said Šaranović.

As he added, this leads to a higher number of police officers, who are the guarantors of maintaining peace and security for the state and its citizens.

Šaranović also reminded that, for the first time since the Police Academy existed, they enabled the 14th generation, which completed its internship on January 15th of this year, to start working without delay on January 16th.

He said that, although they had a plan for the 16th generation to begin their internship in January, that process was obstructed by the blockade of the adoption of the Budget Law for this year, whose Proposal provided funds for the employment of interns from the Police Academy.

"This obstruction directly delayed the recruitment of almost a hundred young and educated people into the Police Directorate, which caused damage to both them and the state's security system," Šaranović emphasized.

According to him, that is why today, at the first session of the Government after the adoption of the budget, they adopted this information and ensured that trained personnel do not wait for employment as long as their colleagues from previous generations did.

"I believe that the Human Resources Directorate will implement all necessary actions as soon as possible to make up for lost time and enable almost a hundred young and educated people to begin their internships at the Police Directorate," concluded Šaranović.
