The Police Directorate has warned citizens that a large number of advertisements have been registered in Montenegro that appear on fake portals and, using the visual identity of well-known portals and alleged posts by public figures, direct users to sites with unverified or false content.
The statement states that in these posts, an unknown person is using artificial intelligence technology to generate fake news and conduct a clickbait campaign.
"A clickbait campaign with fake news and disinformation is a strategy of using sensationalist, misleading, or overly dramatic headlines and images to attract users' attention and encourage them to click on them, leading them to websites with unverified or outright false content," the statement said.
The Police Directorate has called on all internet users to check sources of information before believing them and to be responsible internet users.
"In this way, they contribute to the fight against disinformation and fraud, because only in this way can we protect the integrity of the public space and promote truthful and reliable information," the statement says.
