The Police Directorate filed a criminal complaint against its officer from Žabljak, S.Š. (32), on suspicion that last Thursday, during the arrest of the now deceased fellow citizen BK, he allegedly committed the criminal offense of abuse.
On February 12, the Žabljak Security Department filed a criminal complaint with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Pljevlja against an officer of the Žabljak Security Department.
The investigation into the case was opened last Friday, February 7 of this year, after the now deceased Žablja resident BK posted a photo of himself on his Facebook profile showing a bruise on his face, along with a description that the injuries were inflicted by a UP officer.
He also wrote the policeman's last name on the photo.
The day after that, BK from Žablja allegedly committed suicide in the yard of his family home.
"Vijesti" has no confirmation about the motive for the suicide or whether the two events are connected.
It is suspected that BK's injuries were inflicted on February 6th, while he was being driven by a patrol car.
The injuries were also noted by the Emergency Services when they arrived at the now deceased BK's home on February 7th because he had other medical problems, which is why medical assistance was requested.
The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Pljevlja confirmed in a response to "Vijesti" that on February 7 this year, police officers from the Žabljak Security Department informed them that a photo of BK had been published on the social network Facebook with the text "indicating suspicion that he had been injured by police officers."
"Immediately upon receipt of the notification and learning of the suspicion of torture, urgent actions were taken and a case was formed in order to collect evidence and establish all facts important for the criminal proceedings," the Pljevlja prosecutor's office wrote in its response.
They confirmed that the Pljevlja ODT received a report the next day, February 8, that BK had been found dead, and the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje was also informed, in order to take action within its jurisdiction.
According to unofficial information from "Vijesti", the Criminal Police Sector acted on the orders of the prosecutor from Pljevlja, after which a decision was made to file criminal charges against S.Ž. due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of abuse.
What exactly happened will be determined during the investigation into this case.
In the photo, which the now deceased KB posted on Facebook on February 7, bruises are visible on the left side of his face, and he also wrote a text in which he alludes to the fact that the injuries were inflicted by a UP officer.
"Here's what the Žabljak police do if you want to report something, if someone is harassing you," KB wrote, adding the surname of the now-suspected police officer.
"Vijesti" sent questions to the Police Directorate about this sensitive case three days ago, but no response was received.
One of the questions was whether the immediate supervisor of the suspected Police Directorate officer had submitted a notification to the acting director of the Police Directorate, Lazar Šćepanović, in order to initiate disciplinary proceedings against S.Š.
The Internal Affairs Department of the Police will also deal with the case.
