The Police Directorate, in cooperation with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, has taken and is taking comprehensive measures and actions regarding all actions taken in connection with the mass murder that took place on January 1 in Cetinje, in order to determine all circumstances that would lead to the clarification of this serious criminal offense, while the officers of the Regional Security Center "Centar" have prepared detailed information on the measures and actions taken and sent it by official mail to the Security and Defense Committee.
This is stated in the Police Directorate's response to the statement by the Human Rights Action (HRA) and the Women's Rights Center (CŽP).
The Police Directorate announced that they had sent the information they had compiled today to the Police Internal Control Department and the Council for Citizens' Control of Police Work.
"Regarding the questions submitted to the Police Administration by the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work, which are the subject of the aforementioned HRA and CŽP statement, we remind the public that the Acting Director of the Police Administration, Lazar Šćepanović, has on several occasions, both at press conferences and in various television formats, presented information that was of interest to the public, and that most of the questions asked have already been answered by the entire public. Also, with regard to questions that have not been publicly answered, the answers have been incorporated into detailed information that has been classified and submitted to institutions - control mechanisms," the response reads.
It is added that Šćepanović had direct communication with the President of the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work, Zoran Čelebić, on two occasions, informing him in stages about the measures and actions taken, both at working meetings and via telephone conversations.
"Also, the Acting Director had communication with the President of the Council yesterday, who informed him that the aforementioned information would be provided to him for review. We would like to remind you that from the very beginning, the Police Directorate has shown maximum transparency and commitment to objectively informing the public about all aspects of this tragic event, where the Acting Director of the Police Directorate, through several public appearances, communicated information that could have been shared with citizens and the public at a given time, taking into account the legality and protection of the integrity of the investigation."
In their response, the Police Directorate emphasized that they are aware of the public's need for timely and complete information.
"However, taking into account that the criminal investigation has not yet been closed and that the Police Directorate is acting within its legal jurisdiction and taking measures and actions upon order and in coordination with the State Prosecutor's Office, we ask for your understanding that in this specific case, we are dealing with complex and intricate activities. The Police Directorate remains consistent with the principles of professionalism, legality and transparency, about which the public will be informed directly by the Police Directorate, as well as indirectly through control mechanisms: the Security and Defense Committee, the Internal Control Department, the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work and the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms," the response states.
