Officers of the Regional Border Police Center "North", in cooperation with officers of the Regional Security Center "North", conducted a coordinated action yesterday in Rožaje with the aim of suppressing and detecting all forms of cross-border crime, combating smuggling, and finding and seizing firearms, ammunition and explosives in illegal possession, the Police Directorate announced.

They say that on that occasion, they confiscated off-road vehicles, weapons and ammunition from nine people.

The police, acting on the orders of the High Court in Bijelo Polje and the Basic Court in Rožaje, searched the house, auxiliary buildings and other premises, and on that occasion, seven off-road vehicles, without license plates and necessary documentation, firearms, as well as a large quantity of ammunition, were found and temporarily seized from nine people.

The seized vehicles are suspected to have been specially prepared for the purpose of smuggling various types of goods.

"During searches at nine locations, a Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle was seized from MM (42), a Benelli hunting rifle, two pieces of ammunition, hunting rifle equipment, three Baofeng radios, two Opel Monterey vehicles, a Franchi hunting rifle and 42 pieces of hunting ammunition from RK (39), a Beretta A30 Outlander hunting rifle, 48 pieces of ammunition and a Nissan vehicle from MM (300), a Nissan Terrano vehicle from ER (12), a Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle from AM (41), a Golf IV wagon from EM (41), 37 pieces of ammunition, two hunting knives, 48 firecrackers from EM (59), and a Zastava M96 rifle and eight pieces of ammunition from JD (86), the statement reads.

During the criminal investigation, there was a reasonable suspicion that these vehicles were used as a means to commit criminal offenses and illegal activities across the state border, using an extensive network of associates and illegal crossings outside official border checkpoints.

By order of the acting prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Rožaje, the seized vehicles will be subject to expert examination, while appropriate checks will be carried out in relation to the seized weapons and ammunition, after which the qualification of the crime will follow.

Also, at the joint border crossing Vraćenovići - Deleuša, at the entrance to Montenegro, a detailed border control was carried out on a truck with Nikšić license plates owned by a company from that city, driven by NN (30) from Nikšić.

"During an inspection of the cargo area of the vehicle, three packages of undeclared and hidden goods were found. During the criminal investigation, it was determined that NN purchased the expensive goods in Italy, but that he did not have any receipts for them and that he was transporting them to Nikšić for further resale," the police announced.

Criminal charges were filed against NN, on the order of the prosecutor on duty at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of smuggling.
