The Council for Civilian Control of Police Work announced today that the Police Directorate (UP) has not submitted a response about the police's actions before, during and after the mass crime in Cetinje.
The Council's statement states that they held a session today at 14:30 p.m., where they discussed activities regarding the case based on a complaint submitted to the civil control of police work by the non-governmental organizations Human Rights Action (HRA) and the Women's Rights Center (CŽP), in accordance with the provisions of Article 190 of the Law on Internal Affairs and Article 10 of the Council's Rules of Procedure.
"On this occasion, the Council noted that by the time of the session, the Police Directorate had not submitted a response to the Council's Request of January 28, 2025, and the urgency sent in this regard of February 10, 2025. Immediately upon receiving the requested response from the Police Directorate, and in accordance with the Council's Rules of Procedure, the Council will forward it to the complainant, the non-governmental organizations HRA and CŽP, and continue further work in terms of concluding the case," the Council for Citizens' Control of Police said in a statement.
On February 14, HRA announced that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Directorate had not responded to questions about the police's actions before, during and after the mass crime in Cetinje for 17 days.
On January 24, HRA and CŽP sent a petition with questions about police actions to the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work.
These NGOs stated that on January 28, the Council requested a statement from the Police Directorate on the issues raised in the petition.
The Police Directorate also yesterday, reacting to the statement of the HRA and the Central Police Directorate, announced that it had taken and is taking comprehensive measures and actions regarding all actions taken in connection with the mass murder committed on January 1 in Cetinje, in cooperation with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, in order to determine all circumstances that would lead to the clarification of this serious criminal offense, while officers of the Regional Security Center "Centar" prepared detailed information on the measures and actions taken and sent it by official mail to the Security and Defense Committee.
The Police Directorate also announced yesterday that they had sent the information compiled that day to the Police Internal Control Department and the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work.
