The Police Administration (UP) announced today that it sent detailed information about the measures and actions taken yesterday (February 14) in connection with the mass murder that took place on January 1 in Cetinje to the Department for Internal Control of the Police and the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work.
The UP statement states that they sent the information yesterday, by regular mail.
This institution reacted to today's statement from the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work, which states that the Police Department has not submitted a response about the police's actions before, during and after the mass crime in Cetinje.
"As the public has already been informed, the Police Directorate yesterday sent detailed information by regular mail about the measures and actions taken in connection with the mass murder that took place on January 1 in Cetinje to the Department for Internal Control of the Police and the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work," the UP statement said.
The institution added that the aforementioned information contained information relating to the actions of the police before, during and after the mass crime in Cetinje.
"Namely, most of the questions submitted to the Police Directorate have already been answered publicly by the Acting Director of the Police Directorate, Lazar Šćepanović, who, we remind you, announced all information that was of interest to the public in phases in several public appearances in the previous period. The answers to some of the questions that were not answered publicly were incorporated into the information and submitted to the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work as part of the information, which was sent yesterday by official mail to this institution, marked classified and will be reviewed by the President of the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work, about which the Council will inform the interested party in accordance with the law," the UP statement reads.
The non-governmental organization (NGO) Human Rights Action (HRA) announced on February 14 that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the Police Department had not responded to questions about police actions before, during, and after the mass crime in Cetinje for 17 days.
On January 24, HRA and the NGO Center for Women's Rights (CŽP) submitted a petition with questions about the police's actions to the Council for Civilian Control of Police Work.
These NGOs stated that on January 28, the Council requested a statement from the Police Directorate on the issues raised in the petition.
