Citizens return 27 more weapons

Montenegrin citizens voluntarily returned 27 weapons and 551 pieces of ammunition on Tuesday, the Police Directorate announced.

The weapons and ammunition were returned as part of the "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, which the Police Directorate has been conducting for many years.

The Police Directorate said that in Podgorica and Danilovgrad, citizens voluntarily surrendered ten weapons, of which six were pistols, four were rifles, and 431 pieces of ammunition of various calibers.

"13 weapons, six of which were pistols and seven rifles, as well as 33 pieces of ammunition, were voluntarily returned to officials in Bar, Budva and Tivat," the statement said.

It is added that citizens voluntarily handed over three pistols, a rifle and 87 rounds of ammunition to the police in Nikšić.

The police said that, from January 2nd to today, a total of 3.293 weapons, 110.140 pieces of ammunition, 356 hand grenades, as well as several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered.

They said that by calling 122, citizens can return weapons without any legal, criminal or misdemeanor liability and regardless of whether they possess the weapons illegally or legally.

"We would also like to remind you that the Police Directorate has launched a free SOS telephone number 19969, as well as an e-mail address sos@policija.me, for reporting threatening behavior and violence related to weapon possession, as a mechanism for closer cooperation and active participation of the police and citizens in order to create a safer environment," the statement said.
