Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dačić stated that the Serbian Ministry of Interior (MUP) has been informed that the decision of the Serbian Minister of Justice has allowed the extradition of Alija Balijagić, suspected of a double murder in Bijelo Polje, from Serbia to Montenegro, reports Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been informed that the decision of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia has permitted the extradition of Alija Balijagić, born on August 20.08.1960, XNUMX, from the Republic of Serbia to Montenegro, for the purpose of criminal prosecution for the commission of the criminal offense of aggravated murder in conjunction with the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives from the Criminal Code of Montenegro. The public will be informed about the date and manner of execution upon completion of the process," Dačić said.
Balijagić was arrested in Serbia on November 21, 2024, and on November 22, 2024, the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro submitted a request for Balijagić's extradition, for criminal prosecution for the criminal offense of "aggravated murder and illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives".
On March 7, the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro was officially delivered a decision by the Ministry of Justice of Serbia allowing the extradition of the defendant Alija Balijagić to Montenegro.
On March 4, Serbian Justice Minister Maja Popović issued a decision allowing Balijagić's extradition to the judicial authorities of Montenegro.
Balijagić is suspected of the murder of Milenka and Jovan Madžgalj near Bijelo Polje.
The Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje is charging him with the criminal offense of aggravated murder, in conjunction with the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives.
Previously, the decision of the Higher Court in Užice dated January 10, which became final on February 7, determined that the prerequisites for Balijagić's extradition, as stipulated in the provisions of the extradition treaty between Serbia and Montenegro and the provisions of the Law on International Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, had been met.
Balijagić was arrested in Serbia on November 21, 2024, after almost a month of hiding, and on November 22, the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro submitted a request to the Ministry of Justice of Serbia for Balijagić's extradition for criminal prosecution.
