Since the beginning of the year, citizens of Montenegro have voluntarily handed over 3.391 weapons, 113.927 pieces of ammunition, 365 hand grenades and several hundred parts of weapons and explosive devices to the police, the Police Directorate announced.
They thanked citizens who recognized the importance of the "Respect Life, Return the Weapons" campaign with the goal of building a peaceful and safe environment for all.
It is stated that the interest and active participation in the campaign so far is evidenced by the good response from citizens, especially from the areas of Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje.
According to the police, over 1,8 thousand weapons, over 50 thousand pieces of ammunition, 145 bombs, as well as a large quantity of explosives have been returned in these cities so far.
It is stated that, in the past six days, 54 weapons, 2.924 pieces of ammunition, one hand grenade, detonator caps and weapon parts have been voluntarily returned in municipalities across Montenegro.
"In Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje, citizens voluntarily handed over 26 weapons to the police, of which 19 were pistols and seven rifles, as well as 832 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers," the statement said.
In Bar, Tivat and Kotor, three pistols and one rifle, 1.855 rounds of ammunition, two detonator caps and several weapon parts were voluntarily returned.
"In Bijelo Polje, Berane, Mojkovac and Rožaje, 17 weapons were voluntarily surrendered, of which nine were pistols and eight were rifles, as well as 198 pieces of ammunition and one hand grenade," the statement said.
The police stated that five pistols and two rifles, as well as 39 rounds of ammunition, were voluntarily handed over to their officers in Nikšić, Plužine, Žabljak and Pljevlja.
"We call on citizens to continue with a responsible and conscientious attitude that demonstrates our shared concern for the community and contributes to a safer society," the police statement added.
