The Pljevlja police filed a criminal complaint with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office (ODT) in that city against KD (20) from Pljevlja, for credit card misuse.
"The Pljevlja police have uncovered the criminal offense of forgery and misuse of credit and non-cash payment cards committed to the detriment of a person from Pljevlja and submitted a special report to the ODT as a supplement to the criminal report against KD (20)," the Police Directorate said in a statement.
During the proceedings until the submission of the special report, it was determined that on February 19, the suspect KD, as an employee of a hotel in Pljevlja, stole the payment card of the injured party, also an employee of the hotel, from her jacket.
"During the day, in a conversation with her, she also learned the card's PIN code, after which, on the same day, she withdrew and illegally appropriated money in the amount of 500 euros from an ATM in a bank in Pljevlja on two occasions," the statement said.
The Police Directorate appealed to citizens to be responsible and careful in protecting their bank cards and PIN codes, and to adhere to certain precautionary measures in order to prevent misuse.
Citizens are advised not to disclose their PIN code to anyone, not even family members or friends.
"Never write down the PIN code on your card or phone. When entering the PIN code at an ATM or POS terminal, protect the keyboard with your hand to prevent possible misuse. Do not allow strangers to help you when using an ATM," the statement said.
Citizens are advised to regularly check their account balances and report any suspicious transactions to their bank.
"If your card disappears, or you suspect it has been misused, block it immediately by calling the bank," the statement concludes.
