The first-instance verdict against former Police Directorate Director Slavko Stojanović will be announced at the Higher Court in Podgorica on March 28th.
During the court proceedings, he pleaded guilty to the criminal offense of abuse of office, namely in connection with the smuggling of cigarettes that were found in the truck. He said at the time that he was remorseful.
Defendant Stojanović pleaded not guilty to the illegal possession of a pistol. Stojanović is charged with the criminal offenses of abuse of official position and illegal possession of weapons and explosives. He is suspected of having damaged the state treasury by 112.504 euros through the abuse of official position.
"The evidence collected during the investigation and the investigation gives rise to a reasonable suspicion that the defendant, on March 31, 2018, in Podgorica, as an official and public official, by unlawfully abusing his official position and authority, obtained material gain for another person and caused damage to another person, and the value of the obtained material gain exceeds thirty thousand euros, because, in his capacity as the director of the Police Administration of Montenegro, who manages its work, and after learning that his friend's truck with cigarettes had been stopped in Podgorica without the necessary documentation and with the intention of preventing the police, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code and the Rulebook on the manner of performing certain police tasks and the application of authority in performing such tasks, from collecting information from the truck driver, temporarily seizing the truck and cigarettes from him, in order to secure items that can serve as evidence and file a criminal report with the state prosecutor, he issued an order for the police to let the driver continue driving the truck with cigarettes," he said earlier in the statement. state prosecutor and SDT spokesman Vukas Radonjić.
