After the hearing, the special prosecutor ordered the suspects Vesko Petranović, Dejan Jokić, Dražen Vukadinović, Branko Čelić, Davor Lukačević and Marko Đurišić to be detained for up to 72 hours after their arrest, due to the existence of circumstances indicating a risk of flight and circumstances indicating that they will obstruct the proceedings by influencing accomplices.
As announced by the SDT, Petranović, as the organizer, has been ordered to be detained because it is necessary for the smooth conduct of the proceedings, and he is charged with a criminal offense for which the law can impose a prison sentence of 10 years or a more severe punishment and which is particularly serious due to the manner of commission and consequences.
Suspect Ratomir Obrenić was released.
For the suspects who have been detained, the Special State Prosecutor's Office will submit a proposal to the court to order their detention, the SDT announced.
"From the evidence, data and information collected during the investigation, prior to the filing of the criminal report, it follows that the suspect VP organized a criminal organization with the aim of smuggling cigarettes, which operated in Montenegro from mid-2019 onwards, whose members became other suspects and which continuously engaged in the sale, distribution and concealment of untaxed cigarettes in a total of 9.203 packages, purchased abroad, and thus, by not paying customs duties, excise duties and taxes, obtained material gain for itself and caused damage to the Montenegrin budget in the amount of over 7.000.000 euros," the SDT announced.
