Montenegrin police arrested 122 drivers over the weekend, 51 of whom were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the Police Directorate announced.
It is reported that 34 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and 37 for committing other serious offenses, mostly for exceeding the speed limit.
"The largest number of arrests, 49, were in the territory of the capital, followed by ten drivers in Budva, nine each in Kotor and Nikšić, and eight in Bar," the statement said.
Officers from the Bar Security Department, it is added, arrested DM (21) from Ćuprija and GG (32) from Vrbas, who were driving a vehicle under the influence of marijuana.
"During a search of GG's vehicle, marijuana was found, after which a request was filed against him to initiate misdemeanor proceedings pursuant to the Drug Abuse Prevention Act," the police said.
They said that the magistrate sentenced GG to 21 days in prison.
It is alleged that the Herceg Novi police arrested MI (23), a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with temporary residence, for failing to stop at a clearly given "stop" sign by police officers on two occasions during a traffic control.
The police said that ER (54) from Budva was stopped and arrested on Jadranski Put Boulevard in Budva for driving under the influence of cocaine.
The Berane police arrested AV (20) who installed light signaling devices on his vehicle, the so-called blinkers, which are used exclusively on vehicles with priority of passage and vehicles under escort.
AV, it is added, committed a violation under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
The police stated that from Friday to Sunday, 31 traffic accidents were recorded on the roads of Montenegro, with one death in Bar, while four people suffered serious and 27 minor injuries.
"Traffic police officers issued 1.222 misdemeanor warrants, filed 226 misdemeanor reports and confiscated 22 pairs of license plates," the statement said.
