Criminal charges were filed today against the former head of the Forest and Hunting Management Administration of the Berane Police Department, Ž. V. (62), on suspicion that he abused his official position and damaged the budget of the Forest and Hunting Management Administration by over 62.000 euros, the Police Directorate (PD) announced.
The report was filed by officers of the Crime Prevention Sector - Department for Combating Corruption, Economic Crime and Conducting Financial Investigations in cooperation with officers of the Regional Security Center "North" - Berane Security Department.
As announced, they have been conducting several months of operational activities related to the illegal exploitation of wood assortments, i.e. illegal logging of forests in the area of the Municipality of Berane, and as part of the action codenamed ''Cekic'', today filed a criminal complaint with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Berane against the former head of the Forest Management and Hunting Grounds Administration of the Berane Municipal Unit, Ž.V. (62) from Berane.
"In the proceedings leading up to the filing of the criminal report, the reported person is suspected of committing a criminal offense by failing to perform his official duty, as the then head of the Forest Management and Hunting Areas Administration of the Berane Unit, in the period from July 5.7.2024, 22.7.2024 to July 490, 3, to cover the terrain, that is, to deploy forest guards to the Kucina Gora - Torišta forestry area in the Jelovica Unit, Berane Municipality, in which way he enabled unknown persons to carry out illegal logging in the gross mass of 30m3 of conifers and XNUMXmXNUMX of broadleaf trees during the said period, thereby obtaining unlawful material gain for unknown persons," the statement reads.
"Officers of the Police Directorate continue with intensive activities within the framework of the operation codenamed 'Cemekić' to identify and prosecute all natural and legal persons who, by abusing their official position, enable other persons to carry out illegal logging of forest products," it added.
