In the past seven days, citizens of Montenegro have voluntarily surrendered 31 weapons, 599 pieces of ammunition and five hand grenades, the Police Directorate announced.
They called on citizens to continue voluntarily returning weapons as part of the "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, the goal of which, they said, is to build a peaceful and safer environment.
"In the past seven days, 31 weapons, 599 pieces of ammunition, five hand grenades, 25 detonator caps and seven sticks of dynamite have been voluntarily surrendered in municipalities across Montenegro," the Police Directorate said in a statement.
They said that citizens in Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje voluntarily handed over 15 weapons to the police, including eight pistols and seven rifles, 328 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers, three hand grenades, 25 detonator caps and seven sticks of dynamite.
It is added that nine weapons were voluntarily surrendered to the police in Bar, Budva, Herceg Novi, Kotor and Tivat, of which seven were pistols, two rifles and 186 rounds of ammunition.
"Three weapons were voluntarily surrendered in Bijelo Polje, including two pistols, one rifle and two pieces of ammunition," the statement said.
As stated by the Police Directorate, citizens in Nikšić, Žabljak and Pljevlja voluntarily surrendered four firearms, two pistols and two rifles each, 83 pieces of ammunition and two hand grenades.
The Police Directorate's statement states that from January 2 to April 4, citizens voluntarily surrendered 3.503 weapons, 117.023 pieces of ammunition, 386 hand grenades and several hundred parts of weapons and explosive devices.
"We call on citizens to continue with a responsible and conscientious attitude that demonstrates shared care for the community and contributes to a safer society," the statement concludes.
