Minister of Justice Bojan Božović yesterday signed a request to the competent authorities of Serbia for the extradition of the defendant Ranko Radulović, learned the News.
The man from Nikšić was arrested in that neighboring country on March 26th on an international arrest warrant issued by Montenegro.
"The request with accompanying documentation will be sent today through official channels to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia," a source from the Ministry of Justice told Vijesti yesterday.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić confirmed Radulović's arrest at the end of March.
"Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Belgrade arrested a Montenegrin citizen RR (1960) for whom an international arrest warrant has been issued for the crime of rape. The police arrested RR in the territory of Čukarica, in an apartment he rented. RR will be taken to the judge on duty for preliminary proceedings to determine extradition detention," Dačić said at the time.
The Montenegrin Police Department announced at the same time that a branch leader and member of an organized criminal group had been arrested in Belgrade.
"RR is being sought by order of the Basic Court in Nikšič to serve a prison sentence of two years and three months to which he was sentenced for the criminal offense of assault on an official in the performance of official duty and the remaining part of a prison sentence of three months to which he was sentenced for the criminal offense of endangering security," it was announced.
Radulović, they added, is being sought in accordance with the orders of the Higher Court in Podgorica to ensure his presence in criminal proceedings conducted on suspicion that he committed the crimes of creating a criminal organization, aggravated murder by incitement, usury and rape.
"Communication is ongoing between the law enforcement authorities of Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia with the aim of extraditing the person in question to Montenegro," the police said at the time.
