Ćurić on the incident in Nikšić: An irresponsible individual cannot cause us to quarrel

Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić said at a press conference today that the incident in which his vehicle was stoned last night in Nikšić does not send a good image, but that he views it as an act of an individual.

"This atmosphere was partly created by statements made by certain politicians. I even received information a few days ago that one, as I understand it, an MP from the Democratic Party of Socialists, reported that there were a certain number of voters from Republika Srpska, Trebinje, Herzegovina, who, according to them, would abuse their right to vote," said Ćurić, adding that in addition to the vehicles of the city of Trebinje, several other vehicles were damaged, some of which were even set on fire, which does not send a good picture, RTRS writes.

He says he is someone who advocates good, brotherly relations.

"We know very well that this happened before, but also that there was a certain period of pause when there was not much cooperation regarding the institutions of Trebinje and the city of Nikšić, however, since the twinning, they are our brothers and sisters. We have made it official. A large number of Nikšić residents, Montenegrins, come to Trebinje on weekends. This is a message from some individuals, and we should not look at it as someone wanting to somehow destroy the property of Trebinje residents, people from Republika Srpska, but simply some revolt," said Ćurić.

He reiterated that this was an act of individuals who did not only target Trebinje.

"There were also plates from Zeta, there were our plates, so let it serve them well. We are creating even stronger ties and we have nothing to be ashamed of and look for the problem in us, but precisely in those individuals who gave themselves the right to do so," says the mayor of Trebinje.

Journalists asked why the city's official car was at the party rally in Nikšić and whether the mayor of Trebinje had an official meeting with the president of the municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, yesterday, to which Ćurić did not give a precise answer, RTCG reports. He said, according to the media outlet, that they had met not only yesterday, but also before, and that there was nothing to be ashamed of.

He explained that there was a driver in the vehicle at the time of the incident and stressed that he had no doubt that the case would be solved.

"The police directed us to park there. Everything was regular, but then someone took it upon themselves. The police took statements and there is no reason to doubt that the perpetrators will be found, especially since they saw him and described what he looked like. There is video surveillance on that street. It wasn't just our vehicle, we assume that vehicles with our license plates were targeted in an organized and targeted manner," Ćurić points out.

He sent a message to the people of Nikšić and all good people that they were welcome to Trebinje and the Republika Srpska.

"This way we can move forward and develop local communities throughout the region, and why not even those closest to us," said Ćurić.
