Justice Minister Bojan Božović said that today's first-instance verdict acquitting the defendants in the "Envelope" affair is not surprising, based on an indictment from 2019, which, he says, was drawn up by the prosecution under the leadership of individuals who have themselves become the subject of criminal proceedings in the meantime.
He emphasizes that the verdict of the Higher Court in Podgorica is not final.
"I believe in the Montenegrin judicial system and I am convinced that justice will be served in this case as well. We are working dedicatedly to ensure that the system finally begins to provide a clear and effective response to violations of rights - in the interest of all citizens. The institutions remain firmly committed to the fight against corruption and strengthening the rule of law," Božović posted on Facebook.
