Former President of the Supreme Court Vesna Medenica urged her colleagues from Belgrade to elect her friend's son to the position of judge, which was done after she repeatedly requested it from the former President of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the High Judicial Council, Judge Dragomir Milojević, and also Matija Radojčić.
She did this at the end of 2018 and the beginning of the following year, when she managed to secure a position in the Third Basic Court for a judge whose identity is known to "Vijesti", and a year later to promote him.
"Candidate for judge of the First, Second or Third Basic Court," Medenica sends to Milojević on October 30, 2018, along with the name and surname of that judge.
That person was not elected as a judge at the time, nor did Judge Milojević respond to Medenica's message, so she sent a protest message to her colleague from Belgrade on November 29th:
"I was hoping you would help me with my ***** as a candidate for judge. I would like you, but... I expect at least an explanation if you have one?" she wrote to him on November 29 of the same year, but she did not receive a response to that message either.
Medenica asked for help from the same person a few months later, and this time she received it, according to the messages.
“** only worked in litigation. He is an advisor at the Higher Court in Belgrade,” she wrote to Milojević on February 25 of the following year.
Less than a month later, on the morning of March 22nd, a message arrived at the Belgrade judge: "We were expecting you!!! You disappointed us," and a little after noon that day, another one.
In the second message, she informs Milojević that the person she called him about has contacted her and thanks him.
She did this again on April 1, 2019, when the person she was looking for started working as a judge.
“A kiss for my friend. * started this morning. Thanks!” she sends him, and only then does she receive a short reply.
"Okay. Hello."
On December 30, 2020, Medenica resigned from her position as President of the Supreme Court, a position she had held since 2007. She did so under political pressure after being unconstitutionally elected to a third term. Two years later, she was arrested at Podgorica Airport while boarding a flight to Belgrade. She was handcuffed on suspicion of being a member of a criminal group formed by her son Miloš Medenica.
In October of that year, the judge she had been lobbying for asked for her help, also thanking her for "all the help she had given me in my career so far."
"Dear President, first of all, let me thank you for all the help you have given me in my career so far, you have helped me a lot. However, I must ask you again for help if you are able. After this competition, several positions for advisors remained vacant in the Supreme Court of Cassation. I meet all the requirements for that position. The decision to take over associates from other courts (and from my Higher Court in BG) and appoint them to that position is made exclusively by the President of the Supreme Court. In that sense, I wanted to ask you for help from the President of the Supreme Court, because these personnel changes started a few days ago. Thank you once again and many greetings from me," he wrote.
Their communication was intense, and it follows that the judge also sought help at the beginning of January of the following year.
He contacted her on January 8, 2020, informing her that the session to decide on the election of judges was scheduled for the day after tomorrow, but also saying that it was "the most important phase in the election."
"What was the name of the member of the Supreme Judicial Council I spoke to that evening at the reception in Banja?" Medenica asked him and received the answer that it was Matija Radojičić.
"I think they know that I am a candidate from the Supreme Court. There are only two or three of us who come from that court," the interlocutor sent her, after which Medenica explained that she had Radojicic's number, and that the member of the High Judicial Council had told her interlocutor to contact him.
Almost simultaneously, she sent an identical message to Radojičić and Milojević, requesting that her interlocutor be elected to the Supreme Court of Cassation.
"With the wish that health will serve and all wishes come true this year, by agreement I would like to mention you for ***** ********, advisor to the Supreme Court of Cassation, as a candidate for judge. The session is tomorrow. Thank you and many blessings," she sent him on January 9, 2020.
This time she didn't have to wait long for a response from Belgrade:
"Ok. Don't worry. All the best to you and your loved ones!" Milojević wrote.
Radojičić wrote that this candidate is on his personal list, because he has a lot of qualities.
The judge she requested a favor from was appointed that day to the Third Basic Court, which both he and Radojičić informed Medenica about.
On December 30, 2020, Medenica resigned from her position as President of the Supreme Court, which she had held since 2007.
She did this under political pressure because she was unconstitutionally elected to a third term.
Two years later, she was deprived of her liberty at Podgorica Airport, while boarding a flight to Belgrade.
She was handcuffed on suspicion of being a member of a criminal group formed by her son Miloš Medenica.
Miloš Medenica is accused of having created a criminal organization in 2019, whose members were his mother Vesna and other defendants, with the aim of smuggling cigarettes and illegally influencing the judicial authorities, and for the purpose of acquiring illegal profits and power.
According to the indictment, he, in complicity with the accused members of a criminal organization, evaded customs supervision measures and smuggled cigarettes from the Free Customs Zone of the Port of Bar using false documentation and bribing customs officers.
The former prosecutor and long-time head of the Supreme Court of Montenegro has repeatedly denied guilt.
Part of the case filed against her and the criminal group formed by her son includes correspondence from her phone, which shows that she often issued illegal orders to her colleagues.
At one time, she asked the current president of the Basic Court in Podgorica, Željka Jovović, to postpone the execution of the house arrest sentence of one convict, and to return the seized phone from evidence to the accused in one of the cases before that court.
Jovović then shared with Medenica the information that the verdict she had pronounced against the leaders of the former Democratic Front due to the incident in the Parliament had been confirmed.
The President of the Basic Court previously, in her responses to "Vijesti", categorically denied that she had done anything illegal, claiming that it was a private communication, and not any illegal influence for which she would now report the accused Medenica to the competent authorities.
