"Vijesti" journalist Jelena Jovanovic reported to the police a death threat she received yesterday from a female person who introduced herself as Milica Cuk.
A female person, who introduced herself as Milica Ćuk, sister of a Serbian citizen expelled yesterday Milovan Ćuka, called the "Vijesti" editorial office at around 18.20:XNUMX p.m., saying that because of the article, "if anyone's head flies off, it will be the head of the author of the article."
The text was published earlier yesterday, and the author is Jelena Jovanović.
She reported the case to the police after a colleague from the portal reported the threat.
"I believe this is the only right thing to do, because the daily threats, pressures and targeting have become unbearable and very dangerous. Of course, what is important is that regardless of the seriousness of the threat and the brutality of the criminal organization it comes from, neither this nor any other threat will stop me from doing my work. I have been reporting on organized crime, corruption and abuses for years, and I am aware of the risks this job carries, but I filed a report because this is not only an attack on me as a journalist, but also on the freedom of the media and the right of citizens to be informed. I expect the competent authorities to urgently identify the person responsible for this threat and ensure that he or she is adequately prosecuted. I believe they will do so, because they have been protecting my life for years," Jovanović told "Vijesti".
A woman called the editorial office's landline and asked where we had the right to publish the text, the person's full name and surname, assessing that it was a criminal offense.
"After I asked her in what capacity she was calling, she replied that she was Milovan Ćuka's sister, that she was a lawyer and that she would file a lawsuit for publishing the text. I told her that she had the right to do so, but she kept repeating that we had no right to publish the details that we had published and that 'if anyone's head is blown off, it will be the author of the text,'" says the journalist for the "Vijesti" portal. Dušan Cicmil.
He states that an email with the following content subsequently arrived from an email address with the name Milica Ćuk:
"Dear, I am contacting you regarding the text you published about Serbian citizens who were arrested. You are using false information, using full names and surnames, and you are linking them to clans, and in your country we all know how that ends, heads are flying. Delete the text if you do not have the right information and by law you are not allowed to use full names and surnames."
