President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović received today ND Vijesti journalist Jelena Jovanović, who was the target of threats that are being investigated by the police and prosecutor's office.
He said that attacks on the media are unacceptable and that he expects a quick, thorough and decisive reaction from the competent institutions.
"Jovanović has been reporting on organized crime, corruption and security structures for years, which is why she has been under constant police protection since 2021. The latest threats only confirm that journalists in our country continue to work in a seriously disrupted and unsafe environment. In today's conversation with her, I expressed full institutional support for her work and the state's commitment to the fight for a safe journalistic environment. Let me remind you - in 2024 alone, 19 attacks on journalists were recorded in Montenegro," said Milatović.
He pointed out that as a state and society, we have an obligation to provide an environment in which journalists can work freely, without fear or pressure.
"Freedom of the media is not a privilege but the foundation of every democratic society," said Milatović.
Jovanović reported to the police a death threat she received on Saturday from a woman who identified herself as Milica Ćuk. The woman, who identified herself as Milica Ćuk, the sister of Serbian citizen Milovan Ćuk who was expelled yesterday, called the Vijesti editorial office at around 18.20:XNUMX p.m., saying that because of the article, "if anyone's head flies, it will be the head of the author of the article."
