The executive director of the NGO "Euromost" from Bijelo Polje, Almer Mekić, filed a complaint with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office against Sakib Čindrak from Bistrica, due to alleged death threats.

In a statement to the media, Mekić said that Sakib Čindrak, against whom the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje was conducting criminal proceedings in connection with the attack on the then correspondent of Television Vijesti from Bijelo Polje, Alisa Hajdarpašić, while reporting on the search of the house of the arrested former senior police official Zoran Lazović in the Orahovica settlement on April 14 last year, continued to make threats, this time towards him.

Mekić stated in his report that he was called by phone late last night by Čindrak, who is the president of the Bistrica Local Community, reacting to the way that NGO plans to mark April 22nd - Earth Day - by landscaping the Bistrica coast, in cooperation with the Municipality of Bijelo Polje and the Lim Municipal Company.

"Čindrak said he was against placing benches in that place, because vehicles are parked there. During the phone conversation, Čindrak threatened him, insulted me and said that I could lose my head, which was heard by my family members, who became upset and immediately informed the Bijelo Polje Police Department and gave statements," Mekić said.

Mekić states that this is not the first time that Čindrak has made threats against journalists, environmental activists and citizens, but that "it is obvious that the Basic State Prosecutor's Office does not see all this or does not want to see or hear it", until "something like what happened with Alija Balijagić happens", because the Bijelo Polje State Prosecutor's Office "does not react to criminals, violent people and possible murderers, only to then shift the blame to someone else".

Mekić told the ODT in Bijelo Polje that, if they do not immediately take all legal steps against Čindrak, who "obviously emboldened by the lack of reaction from the Bijelo Polje State Prosecutor's Office, continues to threaten those who work in the public interest", he and his family will come to the ODT, invite other aggrieved citizens and demand the resignations of certain prosecutors whom they suspect, as he states, of "protecting bullies" and all those who endanger the safety of those who work in the public interest.

"Because, if they don't protect us from possible attacks by criminal and other structures, we will have to defend ourselves, together with our families."

Mekić said that no one will succeed in stopping the fight to preserve the Bistrica River with threats, regardless of the fact that, as he says, his safety is constantly threatened.
