Podgorica resident Danilo Mandić went to the police after "a rather confusing street story emerged that he allegedly participated in some incident," his defense attorney, lawyer Miroje Jovanović, told Vijesti.
Jovanović was supposed to attend the hearing of the injured party's witness, Darko Perović, but the Podgorica native did not appear at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office building today.
Mandić was deprived of his liberty on April 19th, and the Podgorica prosecutor's office suspects him of attempted aggravated murder, to the detriment of Perović and Aris Turković.
The defense attorney for the nephew and bodyguard of the Speaker of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić, said that the younger Mandić is charged only with the statement given by the injured party to the police and no other evidence.
He also said that it is not correct to link a politically exposed figure (Andrija Mandić, author's note) with an event he did not attend.
Attorney Jovanović also pointed out that, when he went to the Podgorica Security Department in agreement with Danilo Mandić, his client was not a wanted person:
"We arrived at the Podgorica Security Center in a completely orderly manner, waited, and then it was announced that there had been an event in which his name was mentioned. A so-called "praffin glove" was voluntarily performed, that is, the removal of traces from his hands, to determine whether or not he had used any firearms in a recent period," he said.

He added that they have not yet received those results, but that it is strange that the paraffin glove was not taken from the injured party, and that no traces were found.
"What I know and what I see from the documentation is that, for example, some other individuals mentioned in that event, who were available to the police, were not subjected to any trace analysis, possibly to determine whether they used any firearms or anything similar," said Jovanović.
He questioned the fact that the Police Department did not officially announce that on the night of the alleged incident, one of the injured parties was fleeing from them and then caused a traffic accident.
According to Vijesti, it is Perović.
"This is a very strange circumstance and I would ask everyone that when providing information to the media, that the information be complete, accurate and precise.
"What you were not told is that one of the persons who allegedly participated in that event, which the prosecution describes, whom they qualify as the injured party, refused to identify himself to the police, fled from an area where the police tried to identify him, two patrols searched for that vehicle on the streets of Podgorica and eventually there was a traffic accident and that person was stopped," said Jovanović.
Yesterday, after a hearing at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, Mandić was ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours.
Vijesti reported earlier yesterday that the Podgorica resident was suspected of attempting to murder two fellow citizens.
A little later, the Police Department officially confirmed this information, and it was explained that the thirty-five-year-old man is also suspected of illegally possessing and carrying weapons and explosives.
The security institution announced that the incident occurred on the night between Friday and Saturday, around 3.40:XNUMX a.m. on Ivana Crnojevića Boulevard in Podgorica.
"As suspected, on April 19, during the aforementioned time period, at the intersection of Marka Miljanova Street and Bulevar Ivana Crnojevića Street, after the injured parties had left a catering facility, DM blocked their path with his vehicle. After the injured parties had left their vehicle, DM fired several shots at them, causing injuries to the legs, after which he left the scene. By undertaking criminal and police-prosecutorial measures and actions, DM was identified in a short time, who voluntarily entered the premises of the Podgorica Security Department, after which he was deprived of liberty on suspicion of having committed the aforementioned criminal offenses," the police announced.
