The Police Directorate announced that it will file criminal charges against Darko Perović for making a false report.
They made this announcement after "Vijesti" reported today that Perović claimed before the prosecutor of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office that he had suffered threats and blackmail from the police to accuse Danilo Mandić of wounding.
They also explained the chronology of the entire event, stating that that morning they conducted an inspection and search of the immediate and wider area of the scene three times, in order to find objects and traces, of which adequate documents were drawn up with accompanying photo documentation.
The statement also states when they notified the primary and higher state prosecutors.
"In order to objectively, accurately and precisely inform the public in the case of the prosecution of DM and the undertaking of police and prosecutorial activities to shed light on the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder, and taking into account the misinterpretation of the event by certain media outlets that pointed to certain omissions by law enforcement agencies, we are informing the public with the chronology of events:
"Police officers of the Podgorica Security Department were informed by telephone by citizens via the Duty Service on April 19.4.2025, 3.40, at around 53:0,66 a.m. that a conflict had occurred between several persons near the intersection of Bulevar Ivana Crnojevića and Marka Miljanova Street, one of whom used a firearm. Acting on the report and going to the scene, one person was found who, when collecting information and information, refused to cooperate with the police officers, that is, refused to provide the police officers with their personal documents, but instead drove away from the scene in a Škoda vehicle with Podgorica license plates, obstructing the police officers in carrying out their official duties and refusing to stop at the issued STOP sign, after which the same person caused a traffic accident where the police officers stopped him and on that occasion determined that he was DP (XNUMX) from Podgorica. Due to the injury that was observed by the police officers on DP's face in the area of his right lower leg, he was referred for medical attention. assistance at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. On that occasion, testing determined that DP tested positive for the presence of alcohol at a concentration of XNUMX g/kg as well as psychoactive substances in his body - the narcotic drug cocaine, and that he was driving the vehicle in question under the influence of the same," the police announced.
They say that no other people were found at the scene, except for eyewitnesses to the event.
"DP was provided with assistance in the Emergency Unit, and on that occasion he refused detailed medical examinations and imaging, after which the doctor on duty, based on a visual examination, prepared a report on the injury to the person, which was later, after a re-examination, determined to have a gunshot wound to the right lower leg. While providing medical assistance to DP, he did not provide police officers with accurate information on the circumstances of the injury. After testing was performed, which determined that DP tested positive for the presence of alcohol and psychoactive substances in his body, and after being brought to the official premises, a criminal investigation was conducted on him in terms of seizing his clothing and sampling traces that could be linked to the criminal offense, after which he was deprived of his liberty by police officers of the Podgorica Security Department due to multiple violations of the Law on Road Traffic Safety and the Law on Public Order and Peace," the police said.
After that, they add, on April 20, he was found guilty by a misdemeanor judge and fined 3.450 euros, while the vehicle he was driving was seized for further checks.
"After examining the scene and the measures taken for the first intervention, as well as identifying eyewitnesses and collecting information from them, it was learned that one person had used a firearm, and after the new circumstances, the prosecutor on duty at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was notified without delay at around 5.00:7 a.m., who coordinated the activities in communication with police officers and who were promptly informed by police officers about the new circumstances. At around 47:XNUMX a.m. on the same day, the state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was also informed, who stated that the Basic State Prosecutor's Office would continue to handle the incident in question. Police officers previously, in the early morning and later in the daytime, conducted an inspection and search of the wider scene three times in order to find objects and traces, of which adequate files with accompanying photo documentation were created," the police point out.
They also say that, as part of police and prosecutorial activities, a large number of surveillance cameras were inspected and seized in the immediate and wider area of the scene:
"Information was collected from several persons, the stay of the injured parties and the suspect during the critical evening in a catering facility was determined, as well as the movement of the Range Rover vehicle suspected of being used during the commission of the criminal offense by MD. During the criminal investigation, police officers learned that the now suspect DM used a firearm to the detriment of DP, and another injured party AT was identified, who was unavailable to law enforcement agencies during the aforementioned day and who was secured in the evening hours of the same day by being located in his home, and who then went to the Emergency Center for medical assistance, where he was diagnosed with injuries caused by a projectile fired from a firearm.
"After the medical examination, AT approached the official premises of the Podgorica Security Department to collect information. Based on the information gathered about the incident, police officers launched a search for DM and tried to locate the vehicle and the person on several occasions, after which, around midnight on April 20.4.2025, XNUMX, DM approached the premises of the Podgorica Security Department, and on that occasion, criminal processing of the person was carried out, and traces that could be linked to the committed criminal offense were seized and sampled. After the actions taken, the Basic State Prosecutor's Office and the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica were informed of the same, on which occasion the acting prosecutor in the Higher State Prosecutor's Office ordered that DM be deprived of liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder and the criminal offense of unauthorized possession and carrying of weapons and explosives," the police added.
They said that the aforementioned Range Rover vehicle was voluntarily surrendered to the Police Directorate by a third party on April 20, after which the vehicle was temporarily seized by officers of the Podgorica Security Department in order to take further measures and actions on the order of the acting prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica.
"Following the activities, police officers from the Podgorica Security Department, after detaining DM, conducted a search of the residential building - the family house of DM in the morning hours in order to find objects and traces, as well as a search of the residential building of AB, with whom DM is suspected to have stayed in a catering establishment on the critical evening. Also, during the investigation phase, other procedural measures and actions are being taken to collect evidence and clarify legally relevant facts that are important for conducting this criminal investigation, as well as conducting certain expert assessments on the orders of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in comprehensive activities coordinated by the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica," the police say.
They also add that the vehicle suspected of being used in the commission of the crime is not owned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Police Directorate, but by the Parliament of Montenegro, to which it is registered.
"The Police Directorate has no knowledge of the employment and legal status of this person, nor of his work engagement in the public or private sector. We emphasize that DM is not employed as an officer of the Police Directorate, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and therefore not of the Sector for the Protection of Persons and Facilities, and on behalf of this Sector he is not engaged in the provision of security protection to protected persons in accordance with the regulations governing the same.
