The Police Directorate (UP) announced today that, in coordination with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, it is taking intensive measures and actions to shed light on the murder of Ilija Bogdanović in Cetinje.
Bogdanović was killed last night, 20 minutes after midnight.
"Given that this is a criminal offense of murder, which implies the undertaking of complex and intricate police-prosecutorial and forensic measures and actions, and that 13 hours have passed since the event itself, we ask for your understanding and refrain from inaccurate reporting regarding the event, by publishing data that was not originally and officially submitted by the Police Directorate, since it may cause anxiety among citizens and harm the conduct of the investigation," the UP statement states.
The security institution added that it appeals to the media "to report the Police Directorate's statements in their entirety when it comes to serious crimes and crisis situations, so as to avoid confusing and disinforming the public with inaccurate information, as some media outlets reported today in the case of the murder in Cetinje."
"The Police Directorate will officially, in cooperation with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, promptly inform the public about the activities being undertaken and which can be announced at that moment, so that citizens will not be deprived of information that is important in relation to this event," the UP said.
