Defendant Miloš Medenica offered the Higher Court in Podgorica to release him, on bail, to defend himself from charges that he created a criminal organization that, among other things, smuggled cigarettes and influenced the judiciary.
According to information from "Vijesti", he offered a guarantee in the amount of around 740.000 euros, equivalent to the value of real estate.
"Vijesti" sent questions to the High Court regarding this yesterday and expects an answer from them on whether his detention will be lifted.
Medenica and his defense attorneys have previously offered bail several times, but it has been rejected each time.
The last time, at the end of January, the High Court panel rejected his proposal to release him on bail of 1,4 million worth of real estate.
The Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) has filed an indictment against Miloš and his mother Vesna Medenica, Darko Lalović, Vasilije Petrović, Bojan and Marko Popović, Milica Vlahović Milosavljević, Marko Vučinić, Milorad Medenica, Luka Bakoč, Petar Milutinović, Ivana Kovačević, Radomir Raičević, Marjan Bevenja, Stevo Karanikić, Goran Jovanović and the company "Kopad Company" from Nikšić...
They are charged with criminal offenses: creation of a criminal organization, extended criminal offense of smuggling, extended criminal offense of giving bribes, receiving bribes, illegal influence and incitement to illegal influence, abuse of official position, unauthorized production, possession and marketing of narcotic drugs, enabling the consumption of narcotic drugs drugs, illegal possession of weapons and explosive substances, grievous bodily harm and obstruction of evidence.
Medenica was arrested on May 25, 2022, at the Podgorica airport, after entering Montenegro from Serbia.
