Montenegrin police arrested 69 drivers over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other psychoactive substances and other serious traffic violations, the Police Directorate announced.

It is stated that from April 25 to 27, 43 traffic accidents were recorded, in which one person died, while ten were seriously injured and 18 were slightly injured.

"Traffic police officers issued 1.190 misdemeanor warrants to road users, filed 139 misdemeanor reports and temporarily confiscated 18 pairs of license plates," the Police Directorate said in a statement.

As they said, out of the 69 arrested drivers, 32 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 15 for driving under the influence of drugs, and 22 for committing other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.

"Of that number, 31 drivers were arrested in Podgorica, eight in Budva, while five drivers were arrested in Nikšić," the statement said.

The Police Directorate appealed to all road users to contribute to their own safety and the safety of other road users by driving patiently, responsibly and cautiously, adapted to road conditions.
