The Podgorica police filed a criminal complaint today against Darko Perović on suspicion of falsely reporting police officers, the Police Directorate (UP) announced.
"Police officers of the Regional Security Center 'Centar' - Security Department Podgorica today filed a criminal complaint with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica against the person DP on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of false reporting, with the intention of discrediting police officers and trying to absolve from criminal liability the person suspected of attempted aggravated murder, in connection with the event of April 19.4.2025, XNUMX in Podgorica when the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder was committed to the detriment of two persons suspected of being DM," the UP statement states.
On April 23, at a hearing at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, Perović testified that Danilo Mandić, the bodyguard and nephew of Assembly Speaker Andrija Mandić, did not shoot at him on April 19, and he also claimed that he had suffered threats and blackmail from the police to accuse Danilo Mandić of wounding him.
The police then announced that they would file criminal charges against Perović.
Today's UP statement states that Perović, in his capacity as the injured party, in the official premises of the Podgorica Security Department, unequivocally pointed to the perpetrator of the criminal offense, Danilo Mandić, and that Danilo Mandić shot him, as a result of which he suffered bodily injuries.
The UP also stated that Perović was then citing facts and details from the event itself that could only have been known to him.
"In relation to the given circumstances, other police-prosecutorial measures and actions were taken, which correspond to the information collected from DP before the police officers of the Podgorica Security Department, where during the actions of the police officers, DP had no objections to their work, thus confirming that all actions taken by the police officers were taken in accordance with the Law on Internal Affairs and the Criminal Code. The aforementioned measures and actions by the police officers of the Podgorica Security Department were taken with special sensitivity towards the injured person DP, who in this specific case suffered physical injuries," the statement reads.
The UP said that there is a reasonable suspicion that Perović falsely reported the police officers in a statement given to the prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, which, as the UP added, significantly differed from the statement he gave to officers of the Podgorica Security Department, in order to motivate and calculate to discredit the police officers by falsely accusing them of having suffered threats and blackmail in the police to accuse Danilo Mandić of wounding, while on the other hand, in this way he tried to absolve the suspect he had previously pointed out from criminal liability.
"Also, there is a reasonable doubt about the truthfulness of the allegations made by DP in his statement before the Higher State Prosecutor's Office because they do not correspond with the factual situation and the real event at the scene and the enforcement action taken. We would like to remind you that DP was found at the scene by police officers, after which he refused to provide his personal documents to the police officers, driving away from the scene. He then caused a traffic accident, after which testing determined the presence of alcohol and the narcotic drug cocaine in his body, while a medical examination determined that he had a gunshot wound to the right lower leg caused by the use of a firearm," the statement reads.
The UP stated that the Podgorica police officers are continuing measures and actions to clarify all the circumstances of the event in cooperation with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica in relation to the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder, while in a separate proceeding before the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, they submitted evidence and facts indicating suspicion that Perović committed the criminal offense of false reporting, which is why the UP filed a criminal report.
